I Must Have Been There, Where Else Would I Have Been
A Film About Memory And Belonging
Film Stills
Synopsis
Compiled from a series of decade-old DV tapes found in my family home this film explores my relation as a transgender woman to vignettes and memories that are seemingly not mine and that I cannot recognize myself in any longer. Utilizing nebulous cut out figures imposed on the scene via green screen I reimpose myself and reintegrate myself into these images and videos as a way to reterritorialize this past that no longer belongs to my self. Imposed on the figures themselves is a mixture of closeups texture shots of various chisels to color the figure, the chisel itself a ritual instrument of change and reformation in my eyes.
